چکیده

This paper’s approach to semantic integrity management is that in order to maintain an integrity constraint, some variables of the constraint may be operated on while others may not This defines integrity dependencies between vsiables. Various examples of integrity dependencies and their meanings are discussed. In addition to corresponding to real world practice, integrity dependencies can be used to improve the efficiency of checking constraints. This is achieved by delaying the checking (and maintenance) of data which depends on, but does not affect, the data currently operated on It also gives delayed checking and maintenance a chance to be performed in parallel with applications. Simulation results are presented to support the claim that delayed checking is generally more efficient’

Semantic Integrity Constraint Checking for Multiple XML Databases

Global semantic integrity constraints ensure integrity and consistency of data spanning multiple databases. In this paper, we take initial steps towards representing global semantic integrity constraints for XML databases. We also provide a general framework for checking global semantic integrity constraints for XML databases. Furthermore, we set forth an efficient algorithm for checking global...

Integrity Checking for Uncertain Data

The uncertainty associated to stored information can be put in direct correspondence to the extent to which these data violate conditions expressed as semantic integrity constraints. Thus, imposing and checking such constraints provides a better control over uncertain data. We present and discuss a condition which ensures the violation tolerance of methods for integrity checking. Usually, such ...

Chasing Constrained

We investigate the implication problem for constrained tuple-generating dependencies (CTGDs), the extension of tuple-and equality-generating dependencies that permits expression of semantic relations (constraints) on variables. The implication problem is central to identifying redundant integrity constraints, checking integrity constraints on constraint databases, detecting the independence of ...

Checking the Integrity of Spatial Semantic Integrity Constraints∗

Integrity constraints play a major role when the quality of spatial data is checked by automatic procedures. Nevertheless the possibilities of checking the internal consistency of the integrity constraints themselves are hardly researched yet. This work analyses the applicability of reasoning techniques like the composition of spatial relations and constraint satisfaction in networks of relatio...

A Strategy for Semantic Integrity Checking in Distributed Databases

Integrity constraints represent knowledge about data with which a database must be consistent. The process of checking constraints to ensure that the update operations or transactions which alter the database will preserve its consistency has proved to be extremely difficult to implement efficiently, particularly in a distributed environment. In the literature, most of the approaches/methods pr...
